“Global Map” is digital geographic data sets developed under the combined efforts of National Mapping Organizations (NMOs) of the world. Its purposes are to build worldwide consensus on environmental conservation and mitigation of natural disasters and to promote sustainable economic development. In order to develop geographic information and describe current status of global environment, “Global Mapping Project” was launched. The project provides Global Map data on the Internet and promotes the use of the data.
Global Map;
・ is geographic information in digital format at 1 km resolution,
・ covers the whole land area of the earth in unified specifications,
・ consists of 8 items including transportation, land cover, etc.
Eight Items of Global Map
・ Vector Layers: 4 items (transportation, drainage, administrative boundaries, population centers)
・ Raster Layers: 4 items (elevation, land cover, land use, vegetation)
Each item consists of image data in BIL format. Each pixel has attributes of positional coordinates and numerical value based on the Global Map Specifications.
